For I can do everything through him, who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13

For I can do everything through him, who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13

How many times have you found yourself saying over and over during a time of great need “I can do all things though Christ who gives me strength?”  but you just don’t feel that strong?  Sometimes it’s hard to feel strong especially when having a really extra hard time such as an illness or a loss.  There used to be times I would feel I just was not strong enough.  Then in turn I would feel I was not trusting enough or I didn’t have the right amount of faith because I was still just down right frightened.  After all the verse says he gives me strength so I should feel strong right?  What I didn’t realize was that I don’t really have to be strong, actually I could be a real wimp if I want.  God does not want us to be strong, He wants us to rely on him.

When I was a little girl I would call on my Dad when I heard a noise in the dark.  He had a big warm lap and arms that could wrap around me in any situation and make me feel safe.  I knew that my Dad could take care of anything.   When I was with him I was brave and fearless because he was big, strong and mighty. Alone I was frightened, but with Dad I was strong.   It’s the same way with God.  Alone we are scared little children, but when God our Father steps into the room we become fearless.  He is big, strong and mighty!  When our hardships surpass our ability to endure, God wants us to discover his extraordinary power, glory and comfort.  The overwhelming peace at the point of his rescue is the most comforting thing I have ever felt.   He is always there just waiting to step in and hold your hand or wrap his arms around you, all you have to do is call on him.  For I can do everything through him, who gives me strength 🙂
